At least 150 students of the Ogbogbo community in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State recently benefited from the first edition of the Dutum Company Limited Back to School Event.
Dutum Company Limited: an award-winning Nigerian construction and civil engineering services firm, said the event was put together as part of its LIFT project. LIFT is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative that aims to empower youth through scholarships, financial support, counseling, and mentorship.
The back-to-school event took place at the First Baptist Church Erigo, Ogbogbo, and had in attendance over 200 students and members of the Ogbogbo Community. Educational materials such as exercise books, drawstring bags, mathematical sets, stationeries, and stationary cases were handed out to students who had just resumed for the 2021/22 academic school session. The support materials were handed out by the staff of Dutum Company Ltd who represented the Managing Director of the company: Mr. Temitope Runsewe.
Rising inflation and the aftereffects of the Covid-19 pandemic on economic activities have impacted the ability of most parents in rural Nigeria to provide for their wards especially as schools resume. The support was provided by Dutum to bridge this gap and ease the pressure on families to provide essentials to school children who were returning for a new academic year.
Thanking Dutum at the end of the event, Reverend Akanji of the First Baptist Church Erigo, Ogbogbo, said:
“We are very grateful to Dutum for the LIFT project you brought to our community. We are thankful that you remembered students and people from this community and promise to use this avenue to further help the children from the community”.

He also enjoined beneficiaries to take the support as a mandate to focus on their studies and excel in the betterment of their community.
